Egypt OIE H5N1 Update Recombinomics Commentary 17:07 January 17, 2008 Egypt has released an updated OIE report covering new H5N1 outbreaks between the beginning of December and the middle of January (see satellite map). There were 80 outbreaks reported, bringing the total to 1002 since March, 2006. These outbreaks are throughout the Nile Delta and along the banks of the Nile. Most of the positives are in small holdings or birds identified at checkpoints. A high number of the positives are in vaccinated birds, indicating the vaccine program has not been very successful. The recent outbreaks have been running at about two per day, which is a rate comparable for outbreaks since early 2006. The number of hospitalized suspect cases has been running at 10-20 per day, but there have been no confirmed cases since the beginning of the year. The poultry outbreaks indicate H5N1 in Egypt is not well controlled. Media Links Recombinomics Presentations Recombinomics Publications Recombinomics Paper at Nature Precedings |
