Recombinomics Commentary
January 22, 2005

>> A 17-year-old boy, Bui Tan Tai, who died on January 15 also tested positive for bird flu Friday, said Phan Van Tu, director of the laboratory at the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City.
The boy's 22-year-old sister is also showing signs of the illness and has been transferred ro the Tropical Disease Hospital, said Tran Le Minh, director of Bac Lieu General Hospital.
The family lives next to a market that had an outbreak of bird flu.  <<

Although the family lives next to a market that had a bird flu outbreak, the timing of the sister's symptoms, after the brother had died, is similar to the other three likely human to human H5N1 transmission, over the summer.  These occurred  in Vietnam and in Thailand, and now between the three brothers in Hanoi.  In each of the three clusters, the caregiver relative developed symptoms after the index case died.

It would be useful to know if the 22 year old sister cared for her 17 year old brother before he died.
