Paradigm Shift Intervention Monitoring | Commentary . More H5N1 Suspect Cases in Northern Iraq Recombinomics Commentary February 2, 2006 Al-Hayat reported that a 35-year-old woman identified as Sarya Mirza is being hospitalized in an Erbil hospital on suspicion she has sustained the deadly flu. The butcher, Hussein Saleh, 48 years, originating in the village of Bazyane, to 40 km in the south of Soulaimaiyah, was in direct liaison with the poultries. The above provide a bit more detail on H5N1 suspect cases in Iraq. Earlier reports described 162 patients who were admitted for testing and the number of patients hospitalized has varied. Early reports described 12 patients hospitalized with pneumonia, but details have not been forthcoming. Some rumors suggest numbers are markedly higher, so release of more detailed information on testing and test results would be useful. In addition, Iraq and neighbors have yet to admit to H5N1 infections in poultry. The lack of transparency in this region will make control of H5N1 in birds and people more difficult.
