![]() ![]() Dead Crows Cause Panic in Dhaka Bangladesh Recombinomics Commentary 13:27 February 5, 2008 Bangladesh's capital was gripped by panic after dead crows were discovered 20 dead crows were found at several places, suspected killed by avian influenza. The above concerns about dead crows in Dhaka come after H5N1 was confirmed in Bengladesh’s second largest city Chittagong (see satellite map here and here). H5N1 has also been confirmed in dead crows in the north in Dinajpur, where the birds were literally falling out of trees. Like Dhaka, the dead crows were observed before H5N1 was confirmed in poultry within the city. The dead crows have also been seen in association with H5N1 confirmed poultry in India and Pakistan and serve as an early warning of H5N1 in the area. These reports come as H5N1 is confirmed in district after district in Bangladesh. West Bengal claims control after 3 million birds have been culled, but culling plans for 2 million more birds in adjacent districts have begun, and poultry trade has been banned in all 19 districts in West Bengal. The H5N1 positive wild birds crate additional problems for managing H5N1 in the area. Media Links Recombinomics Presentations Recombinomics Publications Recombinomics Paper at Nature Precedings |
