Paradigm Shift Intervention Monitoring | Commentary New Bird Flu Outbreaks in Thailand Recombinomics Commentary February 13, 2005 The latest OIE report includes new bird flu outbreaks in 10 locations in Thailand. Six of the 10 outbreaks were in PhitsanuLok. Last week a highly suspect case -from PhitsanuLok was described in media reports. He had developed bird flu symptoms and was positive for influenza A. The patient (7M) was from the Phrom Piram district and 3 of the 6 PhitsanuLok outbreaks were in Phrom Piram. Initial H5N1 tests on the patient were negative. This week another patient (6M) from PhitsanuLok was admitted. He was from the Bangrakam district, the site of another reported avian influenza outbreak. The correlation between the origin of the patients and the recent outbreaks are cause for concern. Thailand has not reported any human cases this season. |
