Fujian H5N2 In Butterball Turkey Farm In Arkansas
Recombinomics Commentary
March 11, 2015 17:15

Stephanie Llorente, a spokesperson for the Butterball turkey plant at Carthage, said Tuesday, "At Butterball, our first concern is always the health and safety of the people who enjoy our products as well as the care and well-being of our turkeys. Butterball, in close collaboration with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and local state health officials, has determined that a limited number of our turkeys from Butterball contract farms in Missouri and Arkansas have been diagnosed with the H5N2 influenza A virus.''

The above comments confirm H5N2 at Butterball contract farms in Missouri and Arkansas.  The farm in Asbury in Jasper County, Missouri has been cited in the APHIS USDA table and described by the Missouri Department of Agriculture.Media reports have cited testing in Arkansas or northwest Arkansas, but the above comments cite H5N2 confirmation at at least one contract farm with Butterball, which has a processing plant in Huntsville in northwest Arkansas (see H5N2 map).

More information on the number of suspect farms in Arkansas and Missouri would be useful.
