Paradigm Shift Intervention Monitoring | Commentary H5N1 in Haiphong Vietnam: Operation Pocket Money Recombinomics Commentary March 31, 2005 H5N1 infected an entire family of five in Haiphong, signaling a major change in H5N1 evolution. H5N1 had achieved efficient transmission to humans. The WHO response was a press release stating that there was no evidence of a human pandemic. This is published almost hourly, indicating the WHO wasn't impressed with the major move by H5N1. Each time I see that headline, I think of Operation Pocket Money, which has some strong analogies to the current situation in Haiphong. Unfortunately, the follow-up Operation End Sweep may have an appropriate name, but a very different outcome. |
