Rapid pH1N1 Death In Texas Raises Concerns

Recombinomics Commentary 20:24
April 5, 2010

A Corpus Christi man with the H1N1 flu virus died Friday evening after a three-day stay in a city hospital.

The man was between 25 and 40 years old

The man was obese

The above comments described the latest death in Texas.  The age demographic matches the hospitalized cases in Georgia, and the rapid death once again raises concerns that new H1N1 cases are more severe and fatal.

The P&I death rate clearly indicates H1N1 deaths are well above the 12,000 estimated by the CDC, as well as the estimated 36,000 average number for seasonal flu deaths.

These numbers signal a failed surveillance system.  Most deaths are not reported as flu deaths and the excessive deaths have been continuous in the United States for 12 months.

Rapid death has been linked to D225G/N, and a resurgence of those polymorphisms is likely.

CDC comments on the gap between the estimated 12,000 H1N1 deaths, and the P&I data which clearly indicates the H1N1 deaths have been well above the 36,000 deaths cited as the average of seasonal flu, would be useful.
