H3N2v In Utah Child
Recombinomics Commentary 19:15
April 12, 2012

On March 29 a child between the ages of 0-5 presented to a local ER with a high fever, sore throat, and intermittent headache. The child tested positive for influenza A and was sent home with Tamiflu.

The child had contact a week prior with swine at a family-owned slaughterhouse

The above comments describe the first confirmed H3N2v case in 2012.  The sequences have not been made public, but CDC comments indicate the M gene is from H1N1pdm09, and the isolate appears to be similar to the first 10 cases in 2011 or the two cases from West Virginia (which have an N2 gene from a different lineage).

Although the case had an exposure to swine, the lineage found in the first 10 cases in 2011 has only been reported in two swine isolates (NY and IA) and neither was linked to a human case.  The only confirmed H3N2v in cases linked to human confirmed cases have been contacts of the index case in the clusters in Iowa and West Virginia (as well as the daughter of the 2010 index case in Minnesota).
