Canada Cites Fujian H5 In Wisconsin
Recombinomics Commentary
April 13, 2015 14:30

Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) has been discovered in the USA, most recently in Wisconsin, North Dakota and South Dakota.

Update on Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza - Suspended imports for the State of Wisconsin

The above comments from a CFIA travel alert (in red) or import ban (in blue) indicate Fujian H5 (likely H5N2 has been confirmed in Wisconsin.

These announcements may reflect a lag in APHIS public reports, which had been suggested last week.

On April 9 several countries in Central and South America cited import bans for three Minnesota counties (Lyon, Cottonwood, and Watonwan), suggesting H5N2 infections.  The following day APHIS did announce H5N2 outbreaks in those three counties.

Similarly, April 10 media reports cited H5N2 confirmations in Dickey County, South Dakota, which was followed by an APHIS report on April 11 citing an April 11 confirmation.

The two alerts from CFIA suggests APHIS will soon announce H5N2 infections in Wisconsin, which spreads the confirmed outreakss in the US toward the H5N2 confirmed arm near Woodstock, Ontario in Canada (see H5N2 map) in the Atlantic Flyway.

UPDATE: APHIS announced Jeferson County, Wisconsin 200,000 chickens infected with H5N2 (confirmed April 11).
