Canada Bans Poultry From Iowa -  Fujian H5N2 Expected
Recombinomics Commentary
April 14, 2015 17:45

Effective April 13, 2015, all raw poultry and raw poultry products from the entire State of Iowa are prohibited for entry into Canada.*

The above comments by Canada suggest Fujian clade 2.3.4.4 H5N2 has been detected in Iowa (see H5N2 bird flu map).  Recently Canada has begun banning entire states when H5N2 is detected.  These banns have applied to Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota.  The above date indicates H5N2 was confirmed on April 13.

Although APHIS has not yet announced any Fujian H5N2 in Iowa, the April 12 ban of poultry in Wisconsin was a day ahead of the APHIS announcement.

Similarly, several countries have banned Le Sueur County based on an April 11 confirmation, which also has not yet been announced by APHIS.

One or more announcements from APHIS is expected today.
