15131 84 33 7 3 4 24 The above data list the Pneumonia and Influenza deaths in El Paso, Texas in weeks 14 and 15, when 19 and 24 deaths were reported, respectively, representing rates of 16.11% and 18.32%. The 19 deaths in week 14 match the highest number in the past 10 years (week 10 in 2008). The 43 deaths in weeks 14 and 15, are well above numbers for the past three years (8, 9, 12) and raise concerns that the spike in deaths is linked to the recent H1N1 outbreak in Juarez just across the border in Chihuahua, Mexico, which is supported by the elevated numbers in each age group under 65. In Juarez clusters of H1N1 deaths including a frequency with D225N in samples collected from the upper respiratory tract has raised concerns regarding the spread of a more lethal Chihuahua sub-clade. More information on the El Paso P&I deaths would be useful Media link Recombinomics
