On the afternoon of April 22, Shandong Province Center for Disease Control reported patients of test results of human infection of H7N9 avian influenza virus nucleic acid positive.

The above translation describes the first confirmed H7N9 bird flu case in Shandong Province.  As seen on the map, the case is close to a Jiangsu case (48F), who has a similar occupation (sheet metal processing), who was also had severe pneumonia.  The case is also close to an Anhui patient (55M) who has been discharged (see map), who is close to a Henan case (65M).  This, although the Shandong cases is the first for that province, it is relatively close to cases in Jiangsu, Anhui, and Henan provinces, which are north of the Shanghai epicenter, but well south of the two confirmed cases in Beijing.

The above case increases those lab confirmed to 106, with 21 deaths in the 35 cases with outcomes (60% case fatality rate).
