Commentary H3N2v
Spread In Indiana Raises Pandemic Concerns There were four confirmed cases of Swine Flu at this year's La Porte County Fair. There have been unconfirmed cases in: Hendricks, Jackson and now Monroe Counties. The above comments strong suggest that H3N2v cases in Indiana are widespread. Although the number of confirmed H3N2v cases linked to the LaPorte County fair was limited to four, telephone surveys have identified 15 additional symptomatic cases. Moreover, symptomatic cases linked to the Monroe County fair are being influenza A tested. However, the above comments suggest H3N2v has spread throughout Indiana since Hendricks and Jackson counties are not adjacent to LaPorte or Monroe counties. In addition to the four confirmed cases linked to the LaPorte County Fair, 12/12 tested swine were H3N2v positive. These positive swine included those which were asymptomatic, suggesting H3N2v in Indiana swine was widespread. Detail on the suspect H3N2v cases in Hendricks and Jackson counties would be useful.
