Commentary Indiana Opens
H3N2v
Call Center As Cases Explode The above comments are from an Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) press release, which follows a release confirming an H3N2v case in Jackson County. However, there have been symptomatic cases in Jackson County for the past 6 weeks, but initial swabs were collected 1 week ago per the alert following confirmation of H3N2v in cases linked to the LaPorte County fair (where 12/12 swine were also H3N2v confirmed). Symptomatic cases have been noted at the Monroe County and Washington County fairs and media reports cite influenza A positive samples which are forwarded to ISDH. In addition 10 cases from the Butler County Fair in southwestern Ohio (Hamilton) are influenza A positive and thus far 9 have been H3N2v confirmed. The Ohio cases match the Indiana cases, which also match West Virginia sequences from a Mineral County daycare center where confirmed cases had no swine contact or exposure. Moreover 23/70 contacts with the index case were symptomatic. ISDH has acknowledged many samples from multiple counties, and more H3N2v confirmations by the CDC are expected. Recombinomics
