![]() ![]() Commentary H3N2v Ohio
Cases Increase to 72 in 20 Counties The above list represents the August 16 tally of H3N2v cases confirmed in Ohio by the Ohio Department of Health (ODH). The number of cases increased from 66 to 72, while the number of counties increased from 17 to 20. These one day increases signal increased testing, but also strongly suggests that many of the totals will represent serious undercounts. The new counties were Athens, Jackson, Montgomery with 1 case each. Ross increased by 2, while Greene increased by 1. The three counties in double digits Butler (17), Champaign (13), Gallia (11) remain unchanged, although media reports indicate the 3 cases in Mason County, West Virginia attended the Gallia Junior County Fair. The 6 "seasonal" H3N2 cases in Ashland, Kentucky did not attend fairs in Ohio or West Virginia. The continued increase in confirmed counties supports efficient human to human transmission, CDC qualifiers notwithstanding. Recombinomics
