MERS-CoV
Ramadan Links Raise Concerns The above translation suggests that the first MERS-CoV case (59M) identified by Qatar surveillance had been practicing Umrah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) during Ramadan when he developed symptoms, which was also true for the first confirmed Qatari (49 M confirmed in England), who died in June after being on life support for 9 months. The most recent case (29M) also developed symptoms in August raising concerns of a direct or indirect link to pilgrims returning from KSA after Ramadan. Only one of the confirmed Qatari MERS cases (45M confirmed in Germany) had a disease onset which was not in August. The latest case is the second Qatari in the past week, raising concerns that the number of Umrah / Ramadan linked cases is significantly higher than the two prior Qatari cases, and the number of cases in Qatar may continue to increase. More information on the travel history and contacts for the two recent cases would be useful. Recombinomics
