Wisconsin H3N2v Cases Increase to 18
Recombinomics Commentary 20:15
August 30, 2012

Manitowoc County Health Department has three confirmed cases of H3N2v, Swine flu and 4 suspect cases. All of the people reported are children. All of the people reported have recently been to the county fair.

Of the 14 confirmed cases in the state, the mean age has been 7 years. All are associated with attendance at a fair.

The above comments from an August 30, 2012 press release from Manitowoc County, Wisconsin on 3 confirmed and 4 suspect cases.  Two of the 14 cases were described in an August 16 press release from the Wisconsin Department of Human Services.  They were linked to the Wisconsin State Fair, but one was a worker with no swine contact.

Sequences from an August 13 collection, A/Wisconsin/22/2012, were closely related to the other 33 recent H3N2v sequences supporting sustained human transmission.  However, CDC testing is focused on cases with swine exposure, leading to pseudo-linkage.

More information on the 9 confirmed cases not described in the two press releases would be useful.
