H5N1 Bird Flu Re-emerges in Ukraine

Epidemiologists have found the H5 strain in the blood of wild ducks in Poltava,

Poltava is located 330 kilometers (205 miles) southeast of the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv

The local administration has banned the hunting of wild migratory birds.

The above comments highlight the migration of H5N1 into the regions adjacent to the Caspian and Black seas.  The report is considerably earlier than confirmatory reports of 2005, although H5N1 migrated into the area in August 2005.

Reports of H5N1 outbreaks in Vietnam, Russia, and Egypt signal the fall migration of H5N1 into warmer areas
