trH3N2 Case In Maine Raises Pandemic Concerns
Recombinomics Commentary 01:30
October 18, 2011

The CDC has released a full set of sequences (at GISAID) from another trH3N2 case (8M), A/Maine/06/2011.

Note on characterization sheet indicated another trH3N2 isolate with pandemic H1N1 M gene.  The sample was collected October 10, 2011 and the constellation of genes matches the 2011 trH3N2 isolates from Indiana and Pennsylvania (7 trH3N2 genes and an M gene from pandemic H1N1).  Moreover, the NA and PB1 genes also matched the 2011 sequences, although not as closely related as Indiana and Pennsylvania isolates were to each other.

Relationship to swine not noted, but swine population in Maine significantly lower than Midwestern states reporting trH3N2 human cases.

More detail on this case from Maine, including ability to sub-type, would be useful.
