100% H1N1 Tamiflu Resistance in United Kingdom
Recombinomics Commentary 14:05
October 31, 2008

3/3 A (H1) received and tested were resistant to oseltamivir but sensitive to zanamivir and amantadine.

The above comments on oseltamivir (Tamiflu) resistance in H1N1 in England extends the observations on the first H1N1 isolate of the season.  The finding of resistance in the first 3 isolates tested provides further support for Tamiflu resistance increases to 100% of H1N1 isolates in the northern hemisphere this season.  Last week the first H1N1 isolate in Canada and England had H274Y, which was expected due to similar increases to 100% in several countries in the southern hemisphere, including South Africa where 225 out of 225 tested H1N1 isolates had H274Y.

It is likely that most H1N1 this season will have H274Y and the level in many countries will be at or near 100%.
