90% H1N1 Tamiflu Resistance in United Kingdom
Recombinomics Commentary 19:17
November 13, 2008

Nine of ten A (H1) specimens tested in the same time frame are resistant to oseltamivir but sensitive to zanamivir.

The above comments from the latest report from the UK confirm that H1N1 isolates this season will be at or near 100% oseltamivir resistant in Europe and North America this season.

Earlier reports described 3/3 isolates from the UK with H274Y and 1/1 from Canada with H274Y.  The high level of resistance was anticipated because of high levels in the southern hemisphere in 2008.

The presence of H274Y in 9 of 10 isolates in the UK this season suggest similar levels will be seen in many countries, including the US and Canada in North America.
