All four have the same unusual NP seen in Kansas/13/2009. Similarly, all five have D225G in HA and four of the five have E618D in PB1. The only trH3N2 sequences at GISAID with PB1 E618D are from these four patients (not in Iowa/16). This marker is in virtually all pH1N1 sequences, signaling human adaptation. The matches between all five sequences signal human to human transmission and the start of a swine H3N2 pandemic.
