USDA Identifies First Novel Swine trH3N2 In New York
Recombinomics Commentary 13:30
November 20, 2011

The USDA has identified novel trH3N2 in swine for the first time.  The September 13, 2011 isolate was from New York, A/swine/NY/A01104005/2011, and matches the 7 human trH3N2 in all 8 gene segments.  The HA is mostly closely related to the first case in Maine, A/Maine/06/2011, but most genes are most closely related to the first isolate in Indiana, A/Indiana/08/2011.

The identification of this swine in September, leaves open the direction of the transmission, since the novel constellation was widespread in humans in July and August.

More detail on the circumstances surrounding this isolate would be useful.
