The September 13, 2011 isolate was from New York, A/swine/NY/A01104005/2011, and matches the 7 human trH3N2 in all 8 gene segments. The HA is mostly closely related to the first case in Maine, A/Maine/06/2011, but most genes are most closely related to the first isolate in Indiana, A/Indiana/08/2011. The identification of this swine in September, leaves open the direction of the transmission, since the novel constellation was widespread in humans in July and August.
