Novel H1N2 Case In Minnesota With H3N2pdm11 Genes
Recombinomics Commentary 17:00
December 09, 2011

The CDC has released sequences (at GISAID) from a human (female child) trH1N2 case in Minnesota, A/Minnesota/19/2011.  This is only the second trH1N2 human case reported in the US.  However, the sequences match the 2011 H3N2pdm11 and 2010 trH3N2 cases, except the H1 matches the H1N2 swine cases that have the same lineage as the recent Ohio swine, A/swine/Ohio/FAH10-1/2010 which has PB1, NA, and M gene matches with H3N2pdm11.

The H1N2 case in Minnesota has a swine M gene.

The CDC has also released sequences for a novel H3N2 case from West Virginia, A/West Virginia/06/2011, which has a swine N2 gene.
Details on these cases are expected later today in the week 48 CDC FluView as well as a “Have You Heard?”

Niether case had a swine exposure.

These two cases raise serious pandemic concerns.
