December 12 and 16, by collecting swab test, two samples showed negative for influenza A virus nucleic acid. December 17, Shenzhen CDC for testing in patients with alveolar draw fluid samples were positive for H7N9 avian influenza virus nucleic acid.

The above translation describes the first H7N9 confirmed case (38M) in Shenzhen.  However, the above location is near the flat visited by the first case (38M) in Hong Kong, as well as the wet markets where H7N9 was confirmed in environmental samples (see map).

The above description notes that initial upper respiratory tract samples (collected on December 12 and 16) were negative, but a low respiratory tract sample (collected December 17) was positive.  The patients is currently in critical condition, which was also true for all of the recent cases, raising concerns that milder cases are not currently being detected through the surveillance in place in Guangdong Province and Hong Kong.
