Novel trH1N1 Case In Wisconsin Raises Pandemic Concerns
Recombinomics Commentary 15:30
December 23, 2011

The CDC has released sequences (at GISAID) from a novel trH1N1 case (55M),  A/Wisconsin/28/2011 with extensive reassortment.  The H1 and N1 are swine and related to sequences from the 2007 Huron County outbreak.  The isolate has and M and PA gene segment from H1N1pdm09 and an NP from H3N2pdm11.  The other gene segments are swine.

This case, and at least one other (epidemiologically linked to A/West Virginia/06/2011) will be described in an early release MMWR and FluView, which will be released later today.

These two cases will increase the number of novel 2011 cases to 14 and increase the two year total to 20.  All 20 either have a PB1 with H1N1pdm09 E618D or an H1N1pdm09 M gene, raising pandemic concerns.
