Paradigm Shift Intervention Monitoring | Commentary Turmoil in Pakistan Increases Pandemic Concerns Recombinomics Commentary 15:38 December 27, 2007 He also said there may be a new suspected H5N1 case in Pakistan, but information so far was very sketchy. The above comments on sketchy information from Pakistan may be repeated in the near term. The culling operation in October was in Abbottabad, which is only 30 miles from Rawalpindi, the site of the Benazir Bhutto assassination and even closer to Islamabad, where she was hospitalized. The unstable situation in Pakistan may seriously impact information flow from the region with regar to new cases. The WHO situation update came out today, over two months since the index case showed symptoms, and contained no specific information, other than a confimation of H5N1 in one case. The suspect new case and new bird flu cases may be difficult to manage near term during the turmoil in the area. More detail on the confirmed cases and sequence data from the earlier outbreak, would be useful.
