The most recent confirmed case was also from Menoufia, as was an earlier confirmed case. Thus, there are two confirmed and five suspect cases there. There are also three confirmed cases elsewhere, in addition to multiple suspect cases. Confirmed H5N1 cases on commercial farms and backyard holdings are being reported daily (see satellite map). This spike in H5N1 may ne related to new sequence migrating into the region, or the emergence of a more virulent strain. Release of sequence data and human and poultry cases is critical.
