Paradigm Shift Intervention Monitoring | Commentary . The report of H5N1 in a dog in Thailand is novel. However, there has been extensive recombination in isolates from Thailand, and some have polymorphisms found in H3N8 isolates. H3N8 are commonly found in horses and earlier this year, H3N8 was infecting greyhounds in Florida, forcing the temporary closing of greyhound race-tracks. Several canine cases in Florida were fatal. It looks like H5N1 continues to expand its mammalian host range, as recombination continues in the genetically unstable avian flu poplation in Asia. |
